Reluctant-Tambourine-Gift-Receiver/Picnic
What is this place?saw it on the way out of LA. It could be something scary, but I like the big sign anyway.
Ive been paying really close attention to my dream life lately. Recently I've had a few dreams about infant girls, there are people around, and in the dream I become aware that no one's taking care of them. They're sort of scared and intimidated and a bit lost. Anyway, I end up really wanting to look after them and make sure they're OK.
So the other night Ben had a little girl come onstage and hold the toy piano for Catch My Disease. She was terrified. So cute but just standing there in horror staring at the ground. She became the embodiment of the little girls I'd been dreaming about. I felt such compassion for her and my heart ached to stop playing and just take care of her forever! Anyway, instead I gave her my red star tambourine. It felt like I was honouring and healing the scared little girl part of myself. I wanted her to remember the night and somehow help her to dream.. or something. But she wouldn;t take it!! She absolutely flat-out refused, shaking her head as she left the stage to huge applause. I hunted her down, and eventually convinced her that I really wanted her to have the tambourine. She was such a sweetie and just thought I should keep it because I needed it.
Does that not break your heart?!?!?
Phew, eventually she accepted.

This is a different little girl. Her name is Opal. Try not to die from her cuteness. She is here with her mum Audrey, a dear friend. The three of us had a breakfast picnic in my San Fran hotel room.

Hey Lara,
That was such a sweet post..
Although I didn't have the dreams-
When I started becoming aware of the little un-healed girl inside, I became hyper aware of all the little girls around me..
Life just seemed to continually dish out these sort of moments with them..
So maybe your dreams were a quasi preperation for that moment on stage.
Lovely :)
That is a sweet story. And Opal is an adorable little girl. I think my uterus just twitched?
Lara, that is such a beautiful story about the little girl at the show! Children are darling, aren't they? :)
Opal looks like a sweetheart ~ just look at that gorgeous little smile! The breakfast picnic on the bed at the hotel looks like fun! And the fruit salad looks delicious. I love little kids so much!

Have a great day! x
Hi Lara,
I was dreaming of a baby girl last night. She was my daughter in the dream and had the most beautiful milky white skin and pink lips. In the dream I had two sisters, my real sister and a new one called Caroline. They kept wanting to hold my daughter who then kept putting her arms out to me like kids do with their mum, but everytime she got into my arms she would lean back to the sister who just held her, so she could cuddle both of us at once. I woke up so happy!
I think I might be a bit clucky...

Darling......it's Darwinian....I'm dreaming of bed bugs...what can that mean?
All my love Major B...

You have such a smart connection to the young!
I just spent the past hour or so looking at all of your foto log pictures...all of them were delightful, it's crazy.
I saw you with Ben and friends at the Iron Horse in Northampton last fall, and in Connecticut not too long ago...I'm glad I got a chance to say hello in NoHo; you are such a talented lady and a lovely soul. (Let's be friends, hm? :) )
take care!
Jenny
its funny how you say that larz about the little girl and the tamborine when i was little (im now 16) i use to do the same thing but id usually just stand there because i was so shy. i probably look so lost!
she learnt well to be polite and not take things of others - i guess she didnt realize it was a present! so cute :D
san fran - what a place. i was lucky enough to go over there during their winter (melb's summer! missed it all this year). had a fun time there - my dad thinks i hav an obsession with their trolley carts, secretly - i do!! whats your fav. part of san fran?

I haven't been having dreams about little girls, but I *do* feel very protective of them & I've always wondered why. Now I think I know!
Wow wow wow
Breakthrough!
Thanks, Lara. :)
Opal is SO adorable. What a sweet smile. She favors her mom quite a lot...
You have such an eye for capturing in-the-moment photos.
xxoo, Kristy
Hi Lara! It's Cirilia, the chocolate fairy from the Burlington, VT. show. It was really nice chatting with you. I have seen you, Ben and the band closer to home at the Iron Horse in Northampton many times but never wanted to disturb the packing up. I wonder if it really was my blog that Ben sent a link to...I have a very tiny readership!
If you ever need help with your knitting, I'm at your service! I love your idea of sending home squares from the road, almost like little postcards, eh? I heard that Ben has been sort of homeless for awhile so I almost feel guilty giving him excess baggage but I thought he might need it for sleeping in odd places.
Enjoy the rest of your tour, and playing for the huge Aussie crowd (I'll be tuning in). Again, I appreciate your constant touring so, so much!
