The INEALTTMCSIOD Award

The ''I've Never Experienced Anything Like This!' : Two Most Contrasting Situations In One Day' Award goes too....... Yesterday!
Little girls playing in the Johannesburg township of Soweto, that little girl took the water bottle out of my hand, they are short on running water here in her village. Then, we were driven to the venue of our show, one of the many malls in J-Burg, to play for teenage girls at a 'slumber party' for a magazine? TV show? Yes, that is a chocolate fountain, and yes that is a disco ball and yes a big dollar sign hanging behind it.
Thinking of you today as you RIP, Kurt Cobain (born 2.20.67, found dead 4.8.94).

I was planning to go to Africa and do volunteer english teaching for 4 months next year. I had sort of decided not to because I doubted that I would be able to handle it (the extreme poverty and the like) but this little reminder of the huge inequalities that exist in the world (let alone within a city) has sort of made me reconsider!!
Still undecided but thank you anyway!!
Bizarre.
I remember one say I was driving down some back-country road here (I'm a transplanted Yankee) & saw a McMansion...& less than a mile down the road, someone living in what was basically a SHACK. Not quite the same as starving children in Africa, but the juxtaposition does shake you out of your comfort zone a little, all the same!
I didn't know you were a Nirvana fan, Lara. And I totally forgot about it being that Anniversary...so thanks. Think I'll go listen to some Nevermind.
